Answer Engine Optimization (AEO).

Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) is the process of optimizing content to be selected and displayed as direct answers by AI-driven search engines and conversational bots. It focuses on providing concise, authoritative answers to specific user queries.

Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) has emerged alongside the rise of Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) and conversational AI assistants like ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews. While traditional SEO aims to rank websites high in search engine results pages to drive traffic, AEO aims to structure content so that AI engines extract it to directly answer a user's question within the search interface itself. This involves structuring data clearly, answering common questions concisely in natural language, and establishing high domain authority, ensuring that the brand remains visible even when users don't click through to a website. In practice, AEO is closely related to — and often used interchangeably with — GEO and similar terms like LLMO and AI SEO; there is no firm industry consensus treating them as genuinely separate disciplines rather than different names for the same underlying practice.
